A Day with the PAFBC Executive Director

On Wednesday April 9th 2014 leaders from the Brodhead Chapter of Trout Unlimited #289 spent the day with PAFBC Executive Director John Arway on a tour of the Poconos public fishing areas. The tour started on the Pocono Creek in Tannersville, PA in an area that the Chapter is planning to do instream habitat improvement projects in 2015 and 2016. The tour then moved on to the Kurmes Preserve in Mount Pocono, PA where Mr. Arway was shown the signage paid for in part by an Trout Unlimited Embrace-A-Stream Grant educating the public on the importance of releasing wild trout that will be placed on the preserve and other public fishing areas in the Poconos. The tour then moved on to the Nothstein Preserve and the Cranberry Creek where additional signage will be placed. Next on the tour was the recently aquired Stroud Township preserve known as the Forevergreen Preserve on the Brodhead Creek. The tour then proceeded to the Monroe County property in Hamilton Township where the Chapters 2014 instream habitat improvement project will be taking place. From there Mr. Arway was shown the habitat improvement project completed in 2013 on the McMichaels Creek in Hickory Valley Park area.

After the tour and and a delicious dinner, Mr. Arway was the speaker at the Chapters General Meeting at the Monroe County Conservation District. Mr. Arway discussed the importance of attracting more youth to fishing, habitat preservation, invasive species, and stocking over wild trout populations.
