Scuppernong River Workday Dec 4th, 9AM-12PM

Scuppernong River WorkdayDecember 4, 9AM-12:00PM

Weather permitting SEWTU's next workday is Saturday, December 4th on the Scuppernong River (not creek) in the Southern Unit of the Kettle Morraine State Forest. The workday will begin at 9:00 am and end at noon followed by our traditional Brat Fry.  RSVP to Ken Rizzo at riz2337@yahoo.com if you plan to attend.   The workday on the Scuppernong River will include maintenance of previously installed biolog bank structures. The biologs were installed during past SEWTU workdays. Structures were then backfilled with brush to re-establish bed and bank. Maintenance will include cutting streamside brush and backfilling existing bank structures with cut brush to direct the streamflow. This project has and will continue to improve width to depth ratios, sinuosity, and stream velocity; ultimately creating improved carrying capacity, natural reproduction, and the abundance of brook trout in Scuppernong River. Volunteers should bring waders, safety glasses, work gloves, and loppers. There will also be jobs for volunteers without waders.  Directions:We will meet at the parking lot of the Scuppernong Springs Nature Trail parking lot. If you are using a mapping program just use "Scuppernong Springs Nature Trail" for your destination point.  Otherwise, take I-94 west out of the Milwaukee Metro area. Take exit 282 from I-94 and head south on Highway 67 south toward Dousman. Continue south on Highway 67 for 9.6 miles and then turn right (west) onto county road ZZ. Your destination, the Scuppernong Springs Nature Trail Lot, will be 0.2 miles down the road on the left. It is across the street from the entrance to the Ottawa Lake campground.
