Introduction

Hello,

I am Sam Zabronsky, a second time summiteer.  I would love to connect with new people going to the summit who just want to talk about what it is like, or what we try to accomplish after.  I am also an avid fly tyer and have done a lot of reaserch about the driftless area.  I will attempt to post a recepie for a successful fly there once a week, until the summit.

Look forward to meeting you all at the summit,

Sam

So you're a local to the area.  Have you fished the spring creeks there? Do you have any flies to recommend?

Hello Sam, yes I am. I live about 3 hours from Sugar Creek. I do fish many of thoes creeks. Some flies that I would recomend are Adams, blue winged olive, pink squirrel, and nymphs. Also, bring about a size 8 leech pattern. When the water is dark, the fish usually only strike on them.

Since we will be going in the mid summer, is there any terrestrial action?  That's the main thing I have heard about the driftless creeks.

There is lots of terrestrial action in the driftless area. Last year I saw very few grass hoppers. But this year they could be booming. Some flies that may work well are your basic nymphs like copper johns, prince nymphs, and pink squirrels. Also tie up some scud patters. Most streams have some vegitation so scuds are the keys to sucess. For dry flies, I would bring hendricksons, adams, and blue winged olives all of verious sizes.
