Statement in Tribute to Billy Frank, Jr.

Trout Unlimited was saddened to learn of the unexpected passing of Billy Frank, Jr.   Mr. Frank, up until the very end, was a tireless advocate for tribal treaty rights and for Pacific Northwest salmon.

A member of the Nisqually Indian Tribe in south Puget Sound, Mr. Frank was a prominent Native American leader who played a major role in ongoing efforts to recover imperiled salmon and steelhead populations in Puget Sound and was a proponent of collaboration among salmon stakeholders.

“On behalf of Trout Unlimited, I wish to express our condolences to his family, and our deep gratitude to Mr. Frank for his impassioned advocacy for the restoration of salmon and steelhead to their native waters,” said Chris Wood, CEO and President of Trout Unlimited.  “Mr. Frank will be sorely missed, and the best way to honor his exceptional leadership is to work together to protect and restore salmon and steelhead habitat for the benefit of the people of the Northwest.”
