The 11-Mile Challenge: A story of people, numbers, and trout...oh and one bear.

The 11-Mile Challenge began in April. Since then, people from all over the country have been adding their names to a list of committed anglers ready to take on the Challenge. These 80 anglers were asked to track their miles and their time spent wade fishing over eight months and then tell us about it. This infographic represents the results of the 11-Mile Challenge so far.

The Challenge goes 'til Dec. 1, and folks who participate by tracking, reporting and posting on social media are eligible for a host of grand prizes from our sponsors, to be given out at the WNC Fly Fishing Expo.  Join the conversation on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Now, what was that about the prizes? Well, we’re going to give away some serious stuff from our sponsors who include Hunter Banks Fly Shop  (tenkara fishing package), Davidson River Outfitters (guided trip), Fly Men Fishing Company (fly tester tank) and Unreel Fly Fishing (guided trip)!

TU’s Southeast Conservation project is reconnecting 11 miles of stream through the removal of bad culverts. The 11-Mile Challenge sheds light on just how long it might take an angler, or a fish for that matter, to make it 11 miles up (or down) a stream. This photo was taken by 11-Mile Challenge participant Doug Jessie.
