Mark, great post. I don't know any current conservation writing that has a strong positive bend to it. I'd love to read some, because, as you point out, there are lots of things to celebrate.

Brennan, I think there is an inherent need for conservation organizations to communicate the dire state of the environment in order to keep donors and volunteers lined up. So at some level I think it is a necessity. But we also need to learn to celebrate and communicate our wins as well. Living in a world of doom and gloom is not motivating in the long run...it can lead people to take a "what difference can I make" attitude. We need some balance.
