Wounded Warriors Visit Yellowstone

The therapeutic energy of fly fishing for trout in the mountains and around moving water is well proven, and nowhere was this more evident than during the TU Veterans Service Partnership's recent trip to Yellowstone Park and  Silvertip Ranch on Slough Creek.  Five wounded warrior/Veteran couples were chosen from recommendations made by TU VSP Chapters around the country to participate in this first ever national VSP event.  The goal of the Trout Unlimited Veterans Service Partnership (VSP) is to engage wounded warriors and Veterans in TU Chapter activities and in TU conservation programs to aid in their recovery from their war injuries. The group that participated in the Slough Creek trip included Vets and wives from the Vietnam War through the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  All of the Vets in the group incurred injuries during their service to their country and are, in some manner, disabled.  The trip, the first of its kind run by TU VSP, was incredibly successful, and the powerful testimonies from the couples and the volunteer guides who participated demonstrated how the experience forged relationships and helped create an atmosphere that fostered real healing that changed the lives of all involved.   If you would like more information on the Veterans Service Partnership including how to get your TU Chapter involved, please contact Alan Folger, National VSP Coordinator at afolger@tu.org or Dave Kumlien, Western VSP Coordinator at DKumlien@tu.org
