The Swing Of Things

The Grande Ronde is a big Western river - in the summertime, I float this river from Minam to Boggan's Oasis, covering 65+ miles of water through deep basalt canyons and steep bluffs. Camping on the sandy beaches is among the best I've found, with special reguations to keep it "wild and scenic" for generations to come. 

In the Fall, hatchery steelhead return and the river fills with anglers, on traditional gear like spoons and lures, as well as spey rods and sparse flies. It's also a great trout fishery, with resident trout that grow to 18+ inches. On this trip, the weather was brilliantly warm and clear. The dry fly fishing was outstanding!
