Chapter Update

Hello RNRTU members, 
Here is a quick message to bring you up to speed on Chapter business. 

First and foremost we have a call to action:

Thursday, October 28th we need volunteers to plant willows on Hayden Creek for a project constructed by TU staffer Matt Green earlier this year.  Please email jmyersicr@gmail.com if you are interested in helping and we will supply you with details. 

The RNRTU Chapter Board of Directors hosted the Idaho TU State Council meeting on October 9th. We were hoping for a membership event but Covid precautions kept the group size limited. Chapter leaders throughout the state came to Salmon for a full day of meetings followed by an enjoyable BBQ dinner spearheaded by Biscuit Maker in Chief - Jim Juza and team. 

TU state and national staff continue their strategic efforts to recover the dwindling populations of Snake River salmon and steelhead. I am proud to be part of an organization that uses science and diplomacy when tackling such a big issue. Representative Mike Simpson remains fully committed to the task of  restoring fish runs in Idaho. As Idaho sportsmen and conservationists we will continue to support his efforts.

The RNRTU board will be meeting throughout the winter, either outdoors or via Zoom. One of our priorities is the creation of a summer youth camp, in conjunction with the Sacajawea Cultural and Interpretive Center for the summer of 2022. We will be notifying the community about the details as the project unfolds. 

On Sunday, October 17th, at 7:00 P.M. the Outdoor Idaho program will air "Salmon Reckoning”. This is a well done feature on Rep. Simpson's proposal and the challenges and solutions to fish recovery.

And a piece by one of the most informed biologists in Idaho - Russ Thurow called Born to Be Wild: How Science Can Inform Recovery
The information presented by Russ is critical to understanding why removal of the four Lower Snake River dams is the only viable alternative to keep anadromous fish in Idaho from going extinct.
