Healthy rivers for New MexicoEdit

A few weeks ago, New Mexico's Governor Susana Martinez made the much hailed step of requesting $1.5 million to help troubled streams in her state.

According to the New Mexico Environment Department nearly 30 percent of streams fall short of acceptable water quality, a fact not lost on anglers.

In a guest column recently published in the Albuquerque Journal, Toner Mitchel, New Mexico Public Lands Coordinator for Trout Unlimited outlined the "pay it forward" impacts this relatively small request would make not only for anglers, but for the economy and health of New Mexicans.

"Hats off to Gov. Susana Martinez for taking the reins on New Mexico’s water situation," wrote Mitchell. "These funds can leverage federal and local resources, providing New Mexican communities with the ability to construct the best projects possible."
