March Chapter Meeting –

Date: Monday, March 4th

Time: 6:00 to 8:00 PM

Location: Auburn Sportsman’s Club
50 Elm St, Auburn, MA 01501

I will be very honest. It is good to see the snow melting and some bugs flying around. The first hatch is just around the corner and TU activity is increasing.

I am in the midst of replacing leaders on my fly reels, stocking up with new spools of tippet and reviewing my fly boxes for needed replacements and additions of some new patterns. But there are more opportunities as outlined in the Meeting minutes below from the February meeting, specifically:

   - Cold Spring Brook project. CMTU is looking to understand what our chapter can do to help with this conservation project. Good opportunity to work with Adam Kauta from the state.

    - Fly tying demonstration in Northborough (Library). We are doing some prep work on this to better understand the required details.

But there is more. We are looking to provide some "On the Stream" fishing opportunities for our chapter. Initially, we considered a March opportunity, but the timing was just a little to quick. We are now looking at:

April - A project event that would include an overview of the dam removal project, the current status/timeline, other organizations supporting this effort and support options for our chapter. This would include a fishing opportunity along a potential for burgers and dogs. We will discuss potential dates at the March Meeting.

May/June - Caddisfest on the Deerfield - a weekend event with fantastic fishing! We will discuss if our chapter will get a cabin or tent area and who is interested.

The 2024 Caddisfest Weekend will be held Friday, May 31st thru Sunday, June 2nd. This year the event will be held again at the Foolhardy Hill Campground in Charlemont MA. The Campground is a TU Business partner and is giving us a 10% discount. The council secured the entire campground. Keep in mind that this is guaranteed low flow weekend for the Deerfield River. The campground is on Zoar Rd., right off of Route 2 in Charlemont.

Here are some details about the Campground sites and cabins. There are 5 cabins with 3 or 4 bunk beds and 6 multiple tent sites. The cost is $100 for the weekend for each angler to stay in a nice cabin and $50 for the weekend for each anger to stay at tent site

For more information on the campground go to

Stay tuned for more opportunities as the temperature warms!
