While these new regs focus on boat cleaning and are largely aimed at Zebra and Quagga mussels, the same sort of clean angling practices should be employed by stream wading and float fishing anglers. On the average, a new AIS arrives into the Great Lakes every 6 months. Point is that while we know what the current AIS threats might be, we don't know what the next one will be or where it might come from. Practicing clean angling to inspect, clean, and dry your fishing gear, especially waders and boots, is an effective method to reduce the risk of introduction and spread of AIS. If you have questions, feel free to contact Dave Kumlien, the director of TU's AIS program at DKumlien@tu.org or call at 406-570-0023.
