The camp included a comprehensive fly fishing curriculum, drawing on assistance from more than a dozen volunteer camp leaders. Students got a chance to learn about all facets of fly fishing, as well as the need to conserve, protect and restore coldwater fisheries. “Students were exposed to fly-tying, fly-casting, streamer and nymph fishing, ecology, entomology and knot-tying,” said Ron Urban, chairman of the New York council. Tracy Brown, TU’s northeastern restoration coordinator, led a field trip to Sands Creek so students could see restoration sites and understand how that work is improving coldwater habitat. Guide Roy Lamberton of the Clearwater chapter enjoyed the fishing excursion. “I’ve caught many trout,” Lamberton said. “But none were more thrilling than having a brand new flyfisher experience the joy of catching his first trout ever.” Other participating chapters included Al Hazard, Upper Delaware, Dave Brandt and Chenango Valley.
