October Activity

Due to Covid-19 restrictions we will not have our regular meeting in October.

However, there are a couple of couple of socially distanced outdoor volunteer opportunities:

From Donna Broers:

Greetings everyone, hope you’re all doing well. We recently had a very successful Yakima River Canyon clean up and it was great to see you guys. Thank you for practicing social distancing and wearing your masks. I would encourage us to do so in any of the upcoming events I have listed below. I will be bringing gloves, hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes to disinfect anything that may need to be cleaned.

I wanted to notify anyone who may be interested in upcoming volunteer events. As you all know we were not able to do our scheduled Reecer Creek clean up last fall due to extreme winds, or this past spring. It would be great if we can get in there and clean it up before Landon with Mid Columbia Fisheries does their tree planting on Oct 31st. After speaking to a couple members it seems that the weekends are busy. So would anybody be interested in going next (Friday the 16th from 10-12.) We would be meeting Landon at our usual location off N. Pott Road. https://goo.gl/maps/HTDfe9GHw9zXyous9

Then below is info from Landon regarding the October 31st event if anyone is interested in helping out.

October 31 - Halloween themed! - (10:00 - 1:00 pm) - Reecer Creek @ N Pott Rd - https://goo.gl/maps/HTDfe9GHw9zXyous9

Meeting Place - N Pott Rd off of Dolarway (if you follow this google maps link it will show you the exact meeting location)

Goals -

  1. install riparian and upland plants along various sections of Reecer Creek on Yakama Nation-owned property
  2. mulch around installed plants to retain soil moisture and slow weed growth

Volunteer safety - I will be requiring facemasks and social distancing during the event. Volunteers will be assigned a sanitized tool at the beginning of their time assisting. These tools will be turned in and sanitized by an MCF staff person at the end of their time. As there are three locations in close proximity, spacing should be easy to accommodate.

Gear/Tools - MCF will provide tools and gloves (but I will encourage people to bring their own gloves considering the circumstances). Volunteers should bring work clothes, sturdy shoes, and layers.
