I thought not. You should go. Why? There are lots of reasons, but the best reasons are Chris Fleck and Stillwater Anglers. First, you need to meet Chris Fleck. After serving worldwide for over 23 years in the Marine Corps infantry, Chris settled in Columbus and soon decided to parlay his passion for the sport of fly fishing into a business. Chris has a passion for the sport of fly fishing and enjoys nothing more than sharing a day out on the river with his clients. Chris' business is dedicated to personalized customer service and helping his clients to enjoy a total quality fly fishing experience. He has been guiding in the Columbus area since 2003 and received his outfitter's license in 2008. Chris is dedicated to sharing his passion for the sport of fly fishing with his clients and customers. In 2011, Chris expanded his outfitting business to include a retail fly shop when he opened Stillwater Anglers in Columbus. Chris brought the same commitment and dedication that served him in his previous career with him to his new business. You will have a hard time finding an outfitting service that provides a better combination of service and value then Stillwater Anglers. Chris does as many trips as he possibly can, enjoying nothing more than a day out on the river with his clients. So in addition to outfitting and managing the shop, Chris gets on the oars as much as possible. And second, you need to get on the water with these guys. They fish the Yellowstone River, the longest undammed river in the lower 48 states. From its origin in Yellowstone Park, the river meanders its way across southern Montana until it flows into the Missouri River near the North Dakota border. The primary stretch of river they fish runs approximately 60 miles from above Big Timber to below Columbus. Within this portion of the river, there are several different sections available to choose from. Each section provides its own unique fishing opportunities to float fish and enjoy new water with each cast, as well as numerous spots to stop and wade fish. They also fish the Stillwater River. The Stillwater originates high in the Beartooth Mountains on the north side of Yellowstone National Park, and flows through the scenic Stillwater Valley until it merges with the Yellowstone River near Columbus. Although a smaller river in terms of size, the Stillwater, like the Yellowstone, is also a "freestone" river, and provides some fantastic angling opportunities. The Stillwater also offers several different sections of river to float and wade fish. If you're an experienced fly fisherman looking to book a destination trip, or a beginning angler wanting to learn how to fly fish, let Stillwater Anglers help you plan or equip your next trip on the beautiful waters of south central Montana.
