They are extra cold, and the fish within them require that cold, cold water. So we use a chiller to keep the water down around 50 degrees or lower--much colder than any other fish tank out there. Because of this, it is absolutely essential that all TIC tanks are insulated. There are a number of ways to insulate your classroom trout tank, and you can pick a method that still allows your students to see your trout on a daily basis. Insulation protects those trout from wild temperature swings in the water, and it greatly reduces the wear and tear on your chiller. How do you insulate your trout tank? Share some photos or tips!
