TU Citizen Science Effort Highlighted on Allegheny Mountain Radio

Trout Unlimited's WV/VA Water Quality Monitoring Project engages, trains and supports citizen scientists to monitor their local coldwater streams for potential impacts from shale gas development. A recent radio spot on Allegheny Mountain Radio highlighted our efforts in an interview with Kathleen Tyner of the West Virginia Rivers Coalition, a partner in implementation of the project in West Virginia. This story helped spread the word for our most recent training in Elkins, WV. Sixteen volunteers attended the training travelling from Upshur, Preston, Monongalia, Roane and Randolph counties. Participants were trained on shale gas monitoring protocols and provided equipment to monitor their local streams. The citizen scientists will be heading out this spring to start collecting data in the Middle Fork, Buckhannon and Tygart Valley watersheds, among others.
