Our speaker for October will be Dave Fast, Senior Research Scientist with the Yakama Nation. Dave Fast received his PhD in Salmon Ecology from the University of Washington School of Fisheries and has worked for the Yakama Nation Fisheries Program for thirty-three years. He has worked on salmon restoration and reintroduction projects and is a member of the Hatchery Scientific Reform Group and the Yakima Basin Watershed Enhancement Project Integrated Plan that is working to balance water in the basin for Agriculture and Fisheries. Dave will talk about the coho reintroduction program. The Yakama Nation is constructing a new coho hatchery outside of Ellensburg to facilitate introducing coho juveniles into many of the upper river tributaries that have recently been opened to fish passage. This will benefit the naturalization of coho in the basin and the rebuilding of that once extinct species in the Yakima. This should be a great program. Don't miss it!
