May Chapter Meeting on May 14 at the Sigurd Olson Institute

The May meeting will have a presentation by Luke Kavacjeck on fly fishing the Chequamegon Bay.  The following is by Luke:

"Originally from Washburn, WI, I grew up fly fishing in Chequamegon Bay Smallmouth Bass and chasing Steelhead along Lake Superior's South Shore.  I became a guide with Anglers All in Ashland to continue to support, promote and protect a sustainable catch and release Smallmouth Bass fishery on Chequamegon Bay.  I also enjoy pursuing Chequamegon Bay's trout and salmon, and I'm continually intrigued by the possibilities of fishing the big open water of the bay and the Apostle Islands with a fly rod, looking for shallow water angling opportunities.  As a freelance writer and photographer, my work has appeared in the Fly Fish Journal, the Drake magazine, Eastern Fly Fishing magazine, and other publications.

My presentation, "Everything But the Salt, Fly Fishing Chequamegon Bay" is a look into my fascination with Saltwater fishing techniques and finding parallels between fly fishing the open water of Lake Superior and saltwater flats fishing.  I'll explore fishing both Chequamegon Bay's warm water Smallmouth fishing and the open water fly fishing opportunities for Trout and Salmon and how the lake wind, currents, and tides affect the fishing and create unique angling situations for the fly fisherman."

The Sigurd Olson Theater is a good venue to enjoy Luke's presentation on one of our premier fisheries, bring a friend and enjoy the program.
