The Healing Power of the Outdoors and Water

Groups audience
Monday, October 10th, 2016 - 7:00pm to Monday, October 10th, 2016 - 9:00pm
Most of us anglers know getting outside on the water helps us relax, re-charge our batteries, share with friends and other healthy benefits. We probably take this for granted.
What we probably don’t know is how challenging it can be for our wounded veterans and women that have survived breast cancer to participate, enjoy this recreation, while finding like-minded friends and peace.
This scenario is a theme that, across the country, Trout Unlimited has embraced and has sought to collaborate with organizations such as Healing Waters (wounded vets) and Casting for Recovery (breast cancer survivors) to make fishing and fellowship for these folks possible.
The South Coast Chapter is pleased to host presentations by; 1) Carole Katz, SW Regional Coordinator of Healing Waters and 2) Bonnie Anderson, Southern Ca Program Coordinator of Casting for Recovery discussing their programs.
A great bonus slide show by Noel Furniss, a Desert Storm vet, will describe an incredible 300-mile trek along the John Muir trail and some pretty nifty high alpine fishing, too!
The chapter will host a silent auction for various fishing and lifestyle items and proceeds will go to these groups. (Cash or checks only, please) Light refreshments and beverages will be available.
Please RSVP to John Fleisher at calljmf@sbcglobal.net so, we may get a head count.
A map to the Duck Club can be found here: southcoast.tu.org.
Consider this a Ladies and Gentlemen “date night” and all are welcome.
Hope to see you there.
