The goal is to collect as many as samples as possible in one day! Volunteers who have been trained to conduct water quality monitoring for shale gas-related impacts, as part of the Trout Unlimited (TU) monitoring project, implemented by TU and the West Virginia Rivers Coalition, or who have been trained by another similar program, are invited to join their fellow watchdogs for a full day of monitoring in the Monongahela National Forest. • 9:30 a.m. – Meet at the Stuart Recreation Area Alpena Pavilion to register, receive stream assignments/instructions and a refresher mini-training. • 11:00 a.m. – Teams of at least two people will be assigned between 4-6 monitoring sites and provided with detailed direction and latitude/longitude coordinates for each site. Lunch will be provided to teams while monitoring in the field. • 4:30 p.m. – Volunteers will meet back at the Alpena Pavilion for a streamside BBQ picnic to celebrate with your colleagues Because shale gas development is not currently happening in the Monongahela National Forest, there is a unique opportunity to collect baseline water quality data.
