March Fly Night

  Had another great fly night. The usual crew plus a few new folk. Everyone tying away getting those fly boxes filled. Last night had the first dry flies being tied. That is a sure sign spring is close.

We had a great crowd at this month’s chapter meeting (first Wednesday of every month). Our guest speaker George Santucci is the President of the New River Conservancy. Had a great afternoon tying the Gamechanger streamer. We had 10 folks tying and 3 or so who came to watch and socialize. Brad Buchanan did a wonderful job of leading us through the steps of tying this complicated fly and his little tricks and tips were very helpful. Everyone’s fly turned out rather [ READ MORE... ]

In support of the Giles County initiative "Renew the New Ramps and Roads" our chapter will conduct our twice annual clean-up along Big Stony Creek. Fly afternoon was a great success. We had 10 people tying and several watching and visiting. Zach Smith did a great job of leading us through the steps to tying a Galloup's sex dungeon articulated streamer. However, I could use some more practice. Trout in the Classroom

Shawsville Middle School picked up trout eggs this fall from Paint Bank Hatchery as part of a field trip. The kids worked together to take care of the tank and fish!

Our First Fly Night

Had our first NRVTU fly night and the Eastern Divide Brewery last night. We had 12 folks attend about 5 were tying others were watching, learning new patterns and techniques. NRVTU December meeting, 12/4/2019 Had a good group to listen to our guest speaker John Copeland the region fisheries biologist for this area.
