Ogden River, Utah

Ogden River, Utah

This photo is of the restoration reach of the Ogden River. The cold snap we have experienced in Northern Utah in December of 2013 caused a lot of anchor ice attached to the cobbles in the riverbed, which looked pretty interesting and it means that the water probably supercooled (colder than freezing but still in liquid state) at some point. In some cases the ice had narrowed the active channel considerably. Many of the pools appeared to be frozen over, so fishing is probably pretty tough. Fish have to deal with very challengin conditions in the winter.
