Securing Native Cutthroat Trout in Wheeler Creek

Goals

The goal of the project was to prevent invasion of nonnative trout into waters occupied by a genetically pure population of native Colorado River Cutthroat Trout in Wheeler Creek.

Tactics

A barrier was constructed to prevent upstream movement of rainbow trout and Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout into the Colorado River Cutthroat habitat.

Victories

The project secured 1.3 miles of native fish habitat, helping to secure a stronghold for this species of native trout.
