Trout Unlimited loves native fish and programs that not only promote conservation efforts for the species, but also the enjoyment of the creatures.

Wyoming Game and Fish officials are gearing up for the 19th annual Cutt-Slam program. Started in 1996 to encourage anglers to get out and enjoy native cutthroat trout species, the Cutt-Slam program has awarded more than 1,150 anglers with certificates showing they managed to land the following four subspecies of cutthroat in their native range in the Cowboy State: Yellowstone, Snake River, Bonneville and Colorado River.

Anglers need only provide a photo to confirm all four subspecies of cutthroat were caught and information about the date and location of the catch.

Wyoming officials say efforts with Trout Unlimited and federal land managers to restore habitat have led to increased populations in the native ranges.

So get out and earn a Wyoming Cutt-Slam. And, if you are adventurous, try to do it all in one day like this reporter from the Casper Star Tribune managed to do last summer.

Greatest program ever for getting families into new country and fishing new places. We have six Cutt-Slammers under the age of 14 in our family, and hope to have another one this summer - at age six.

If you'd like to fish for a Cutt-Slam but don't know where to start, contact any TU Business member in Wyoming. http://www.tu.org/tu-business#Wyoming
