Only in Dreams | A poem inspired by trout streams and mountains

Photo and poem by Erich Frie, TU Teen member serving on the national Youth Leadership Council and Board Member of Hacklebarney TU, New Jersey.

Only in Dreams

I dream of a babbling brook
Untouched by man
That meanders through the countryside
But this is only in dreams

I dream of the purest trout
With colors more exquisite than those of  a fine painting
That sip on caddis ‘til the sun sets, staining the sky with reds and yellows
But this is only in dreams

I dream of a young pup prancing by my side
He nips at my ankles hoping to get a glance at a fish
His tail never ceases to sway back and forth like a wind blown hammock
But this is only in dreams

I dream of a place where mountains humble those who gaze upon them
Their landscapes molded by the hands of God
This is a place that everyone seeks
But this is only in dreams

I dream of climbing to the summits of these mountains
I look down at the serene valley below
And I reminisce on the journey called life
But this is only in dreams
