This is our Tualatin Valley Trout Unlimited Chapter newsletter that will be coming out twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. Miller Lake OutingBy Andy AndrewsThe Miller Lake outing came off as scheduled. The last 12 miles of road to the lake off highway 97 usually looked like it had been used as an artillery range was surprising smooth. I later learned that the road had recently been grated.I arrived in early afternoon on Thursday to find the campground, named Digit Point, was filled to 95 percent capacity. In years passed the campground may have been only 40 - 50 filled. Camp spots with lake views were smaller than non-views, closer together and seemed to me, to have a higher percentage of California plates. This was confirmed later by the campground hosts that they were experiencing a higher than normal number of campers from out of state. However, the numbers did not translate to a higher number of fisherman. During the weekend I saw 6 - 8 fisherman max on the lake fishing. The majority of campers on the lake were in some sort of floating device, just sightseeing or cruising the lake. I camped away from the lake and had all theroom I could hope for. The famous mosquitos that usually stalk the campground were missing. Whoo - whoo! The catching was not all one could hope for. I think everyone in our group caught fish, but it was very much a ‘light switch on, light switch off’ kind of experience. We were chased off the lake one day by passing wind, rain a fewbolts of lighting.Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and admit that it was just great to get out of Dodge and camp for a few days. Upcoming Outing By Andy Andrews Harriet Lake outing has been moved to Oct. 15Fall River outing is still on for Sept 24-28 but the campground is now at Rock Creek Campground at Crane Prairie because the Fall River campground is closed..
