This innovative program will be offered FREE to the public on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the Clymer Library, 115 Firehouse Road, Pocono Pines, PA from 6:00-8:00pm. The evening features three members of Trout Unlimited’s national staff. According to the Department of Environmental Protection, Pennsylvania is expected to see up to 27,000 miles of new pipelines by 2030. Katy Dunlap, TU’s eastern water project director, will describe Pennsylvania’s landscape of proposed major pipelines, potential impacts to water resources and fisheries, and the regulatory framework for major natural gas pipelines. Jake Lemon, TU’s eastern shale gas monitoring coordinator, will explain how citizens can play a practical role in watching over coldwater streams by conducting pipeline monitoring before, during and after construction. Paula Piatt, TU’s eastern sportsmen organizer, will describe how TU is working to achieve protective water quality and fisheries designations to ensure that as pipelines are permitted, appropriate conditions are placed on development. This is a major, cooperative joint venture developed by TU for the benefit of sportsmen and women in the Poconos, as well as surrounding areas. This program represents TROUT UNLIMITED at its best working together to create protection and awareness of conservation of Pocono trout and their vital fresh water habitat.
