Browns at the Mouth of the Montreal River Iron Co

I was fishing the Mouth of the Montreal on Thursday, Dec. 10th.  I caught a 21 inch brown on a white tongue depressor.  While there I only saw one other fish porpoising.  There are coho's and browns coming in from Lake Superior this time of the year.

Coho's are the fish of choice in the Montreal River Mouth

Having visited the Mouth of the Montreal River several times in the month of October, Coho's are still plentiful below the falls.  Though not a lot of Coho's have been caught, there usually are a handful being landed everyday.

Lake Run Browns

Rainbows on Weber Lake

Rainbows were hitting the Adams dry fly tonight on Weber Lake.  I have been heading out after supper with my kayak for an hour or two before sunset.  Weber is usually a callm lake because it sits below Whitecap Mountain.  I also caught bluegills & crappies, so you never know until you set the [ READ MORE... ]

East Branch of the Montreal River Cleanup

On a windy and warm Saturday Aug. 22nd.  20 volunteers cleaned up a section of the East Branch of the Montreal River.  This stream is the boundary between Wisconsin and Michigan in Iron County.  It flows between the cities of Ironwood and Hurley.  The target area was between the Norrie Spillway and [ READ MORE... ]

Hot Weather

The daily temperature has been over 80 degrees for the past week and the trout streams are reaching 70 degrees as well.  Give the trout a break if you are on a stream that is over 70.

Ice is leaving Saxon Harbor

Today, March 31, 2015, I checked out Saxon Harbor and the ice is out of the bay.  There is ice in the boat mooring areas of the harbor and one should be careful to make sure you can return safely to the launch without being blocked by the ice.  Tomorrow the temp should be around 60 and this might [ READ MORE... ]

Last few days of trout season

Rainbows on Weber Lake

The past couple of days I have been fishing Weber Lake in Iron County.  This rainbow hit a Parachute Adams just before sunset.  Surface temp is 58 degrees and a lot of fish are loading up on food on top.

White River Hex

Marion & I fished the White River on Sunday July 6th.  The hatch was on and Marion landed a 19 inch brown trout.  I was not so successful, but still enjoyed the adventure.
